IN THE HOLLOWS OF THE ELK
Performative, installation monoprint, 2013
Banff National Park
In the Hollows of the Elk, records the trace of tall grasses flattened by the body of a resting elk, later to be embodied by the artist. Created in Banff National Park, a migratory path for elk, two transient beings— the artist and the elk— come to rest on the same soil. The work imagines the topography of the grasses as a printmaking plate, with a depression carved by the weight and presence of the elk. The artists’ body becomes the ink deposit filling the trace left by the elk. One entity fills the void, left by the other.
